Relay for Life
ASSA ABLOY contribute to local fundraising efforts.
ASSA ABLOY New Zealand entered a team of 17 people to participate in the Relay for Life on the North Shore of Auckland helping to raise money for cancer research.
The Relay for Life that took place on 28 February, is a 24 hour relay where participants walk or run around a 400 metre track to raise money for the New Zealand Cancer Society. The funds raised go towards cancer research, raising awareness of cancer prevention and to help support those living with cancer.
Each year the event takes place in over 22 locations around New Zealand with teams ranging from community groups to corporate teams. The ASSA ABLOY New Zealand team, aptly named ‘Hardcore Hardware’, raised $2270 with sponsorship from family and friends, a sausage sizzle, a bake sale and a raffle.
Stormy weather delayed the start of the event until the Sunday morning. Team ‘Hardcore Hardware’ walked for a total of 613 laps (245 km) with an average of 15 kilometres per team member.
“Although cut short by the weather the event was great and the team of people participating were fantastic,” says Dominie Ackroyd, Compliance Team Member. “Everyone got into the spirit of the day and proudly represented ASSA ABLOY New Zealand for a great cause. We look forward to doing it again next year.”
